The City Knights are an original Back of The Yards creation that started in 1989 at the intersection of 48th and Wood. I do not know who the founder is. The City Knights came about during turbulent times when there were now several gangs in the Back of The Yards neighborhood that were allied with either the People or Folk nation.  Even Back of The Yards original gangs such as Saints, Latin Souls and Party Players joined People or Folks by 1989.  The City Knights dared to start a neutral crew in the middle of the crossfire of the Saints and Latin Souls.  It was risky; however, the City Knights had the balls to make it happen and survived.  They made it happen by putting up a huge fight with Satan Disciples and Saints and made their presence known.  The CKs allied up with another party crew that had just turned into a gang, the Party Players of 48th street.

In 1992, the relationship with the Party Players came to an abrupt end and the CKs gunned after the Party Players and killed some of their members, the war became bloody and the CKs showed they could survive with no allies which was very impressive for a new gang and actually unheard of by this point in history.  Gangs that formed in the 1980s and later often die after a few years but the CKs got stronger, as a result the Satan Disciples from 51st and Wood began to admire the CKs and decided to extend the olive branch in 1994.  The SDs then took the CKs under their wing and brought them into the Folk Nation, in turn, the CKs honored the SDs by calling themselves the “Insane Gangster City Knights.”  Shortly after this invitation into the Folk Nation the CKs opened up turf at 47th and Rockwell in 2000 and also moved into the suburbs of Waukegan, Elgin and Woodstock.  The Waukegan suburb became a big success and many CKs were recruited there.

War broke out with La Raza in January 1997.  At the intersection of 48th and Wood (De La Wood) in the Back of The Yards neighborhood, several La Raza gang members jumped Sir Bucket of the City Knights and used a rusty screwdriver to stab Sir Bucket in the leg.  The wound in Sir Bucket’s leg became severely infected and his leg needed to be amputated; however, the infection ended up spreading to the rest of his body any way and Sir Bucket died, war with La Raza began right away.

By 1997, the CKs were at war with Two Sixs.  The CKs now had only one ally, the Satan Disciples; regardless, this gang survived despite being brought into the game late in the 1980s and fighting everyone.  They were even able to open a set at 58th and Albany “Smoke Town” in the Gage Park neighborhood.
